This and That…

It’s been far too long since my last update. But, let me tell you, I have a good reason.  Before we get to that, let’s quickly catch up on what’s been going on for the past four months.

First, we took a trip to Whistler, which was pretty awesome.

Then, we got home, and started the refinancing process, which kicked my butt in high gear to get the finish work completed on the laundry room before our appraisal. I painted, finished the trim and built the cabinet faces, but still need to do the doors.

Appraisal came in at what we bought the house for four years ago, which was a major disappointment, but we still have enough equity to seal the deal… and the market’s only improving.

Then, I repaired the mouse hole in the living room, and realized we didn’t have any paint in the garage that matched the walls. Which meant, rather than getting a gallon of custom matched paint to cover the patch, I decided to repaint the main portion of the house. A new color. We have a sweet new Orchard Supply Hardware across the street that carries Benjamin Moore, so I’m a Ben man again. Sorry Behr. Grege Avenue is the color, and it’s oh-so-nice.

Before painting, I also fixed the ceiling texture that has been missing since we replaced our front door 3 years ago, and also repainted the ceiling.

And then, we decided it was time to finally scrap the nasty carpet in our bedroom and the guest room. This is the first thing I’ve hired done in the house. I took up the old stuff, but I know my limits, and I didn’t want to risk making a mess of the floors in either room, so I called in pro installers. And I’m glad. I regularly find myself rubbing my face on the new carpet. So silky soft.

Outside of the house, I did the typical spring shrub clean-up, and also spread seven yards of barkdust on all of the flowerbeds. Phew.

Time for a vacation, which brings us to current. We just spent the most amazing 4th of July weekend in Juneau, Alaska, with our old college buddies Joy and Nelson and Steph and Ross (thanks again for the great time, guys!!).

I’ve you’ve never been to Alaska, go. It’s second in beauty only to Switzerland in my book.  And there are hoary marmots.

And, for the most part, that’s where we’re at.

Next up… my proudest DIY yet.
