The house is an early-sixties era (1962 to be exact) ranch-style home. Currently weighing in at 1750 sq. feet, it has three bedrooms and two baths, situated on 1/3 of an acre in the suburbs of Portland, Oregon.
Here’s the deal – we love the house, we love the neighborhood, and we love the proximity to the city – it could just use a little sprucing up. The 10-year plan is to update the home throughout, complete with the addition of an office, bedroom and one bath, as well as the extension of the back yard.

The planned floor plan
In addition to the fact that the house lacks the craftsman-style character I crave, the house has its original guts. As we renovate, room by room, I’ll be adding insulation to the exterior walls (currently none), swapping the plumbing to PEX (currently galvanized) upgrading the electrical where necessary (GFCI outlets, etc.) and making occasional energy efficient upgrades.
